Fibernet Competitiveness_letter by DennisSullivanFrom: Dennis Sullivan [dennisj.sullivan@fnmmail.com] Sent: Sunday, February 17, 2013 2:22 PM To: eugenen@tds.net Cc: Mark Pultusker Subject: Fibernet Competitiveness Eugene Newcombe Monticello, MN February 17, 2013 Dear Sir, Thank you for sharing your wonderful package deal with TDS for a bundle of services. I sure never had that kind of opportunity when I was their customer! What struck me about your letter is your comment that you are a very frugal person and that you always shop for the best price for all of your expenditures. Today, there are many more opportunities for saving considerable money in the area of home technology; First, there is the opportunity for saving based on eliminating the land telephone line. Many cell phone providers offer a plan that will connect all of your home phones with a router/internet connection to your cell phone plan. Normally, the at home phone service costs around $10 to $12 per month depending upon carrier. Second, is the trend towards cutting the cable and capturing over-the-air- Digital TV. The Twin Cities has over 44 digital high definition channels that can be picked up with a small attic mounted antenna available at the local Ace Hardware store. Cost for this content is Free. An improvement in viewing opportunities is also available over the internet by purchasing a small box called ROKU, or Apple TV which connects your TV to the internet to stream movies or to view available content. Streaming movies from Amazon or Netflix is easy with a high speed/high bandwidth connection. So all of the free or low cost opportunities depend upon a high speed internet connection which is reliable because of the underground construction. Your community has made an investment in the infrastructure to provide a high speed reliable connection to the information highway. The byproduct of this investment has been to drive prices down for the consumer. Other consumers are are following the trends as I described and saving much more. I don’t believe your current supplier would let your take advantage of extreme saving even though you do not have a “Contract” We have three suppliers of telecommunication content in our community, hopefully, they will manage the “illusion of unlimited capability” so that we consumers truly have choices. Good Luck Dennis Sullivan
