SIGN ORDINANCE
OFFICIAL SUMMARY FOR PUBLICATION
The Sign Ordinance establishes certain zoning regulations for signs in an effort to provide
adequate means of expression and to promote the economic viability of the business community.
The ordinance establishes regulations for the number, location, size, type, illumination and other
physical characteristics of signs within the City in order to promote the public health, safety and
welfare. The ordinance includes revisions from the previous ordinance pertaining to: limits of
temporary signage, language regulating the type and characteristic of dynamic displays, and
allowances for commercial and industrial district sign size, height and setback. The ordinance also
includes definitions and illustrations specific to the regulation of signage.
The Sign Ordinance sets forth the requirements for signage as Chapter 3A of the Monticello
Zoning Ordinance.
Printed copies of the ordinance are available for inspection by any person during the City Hall
regular office hours.
