September 14, 1970
Meeting called to order by Mayor Ronald Schleif at 7:30 P. M., on September
14. Councilmen present: Ron Schleif, James Maus, Franz Swanberg, William
Sandberg, Richard Martie. Attorney, Gary Pringle; Engineer, Thore Meyer;
Commission members: Larry Flake and Robert Davis were present.
Gary Pringle reported on annexation hearing on September 16th.
Municipal Commission will designate an area that needs orderly annexation.
Annexation is not accomplished now. Another hearing will be called to re-
quest annexation.
Bob Davis brought up several points to consider:
1. Need three men to complete commission personnel. Davis has contacted
Fred Topel, Lloyd Schnell..e, Don Hueller and has received their con-
sent. Motion to accept suggested list and appoint these men to Planning
Commission made by Wm. Sandberg and seconded by James Maus. Carried unanimously.
2. A Village Councilman should be appointed as laison to Planning Commission.
Franz Swanberg made motion that William Sandberg be appointed to Planning
Commission. Seconded by Richard Martie and carried.
3. Request that Village Clerk be re -appointed as secretary of Planning Com-
mission. Council approved action as per ordinance 203.070. Don Gran-
lund also directed to take minutes at September 16th hearing.
James Metcalf, attorney for Township, offered to withdraw application for
orderly annexation and let annexation -merger question go to referendum.
Consensus of Council to object to this action.
Gary Pringle outlined agenda for September 16 hearing:
1. Caucus meeting at 10:00 A.M. with Ron Schleif, Gary Pringle, Basil
Schillewaert, James Metcalf.
2. Charles Tooker will present an over-all view of the Township and potential.
Gary Pringle will present a tax base report. Representative of agencies
and local business will present views: State Highway Dept., Kent Kjell-
berg, Grant Schleif, Loren Senness, Stan Hall, etc. Thore Meyer,* NSP
representative, will report on development. Charles Tooker will tie to-
gether all reports.
Howard Gillham, Kent Kjellberg, Stan Hall, Otto Griefnow, Jay Miller and
Blaine Nobbs joined meeting at 9:00 P.M. Extended discussion resulted in
directive to Mayor Schleif to go to caucus requesting merger.
Meeting adjourned at 11:15 P.M.
