City Council Minutes 05-03-1966May 3, 1966 31
Regular meeting of the village council held this date in the village hall
Members present- Erlandson, Kasper, Madsen, Topel and Sandberg. Absent- None.
Minutes of the meeting of April 5 were approved as read.
MacQueen Equipment Co. of St. Paul discussed the sale of a street sweeper to the
village. The representative offered to sale the village a used sweeper, that cost
approximately $10,000.00 when new, for $3,000.00. Motion by Topel to rent this
machine for $600*00 per month with the rental prieb to apply tword the purchase
if the village decided to buy the xxx sweeper. Seconded by Kasper. Kasper and
Topel voted yes., Madsen and Randberg voted no. Mayor Erlandson cast the deciding
yes vote. Motion carried.
Attorni.es Latimer and Heffernan presented a final copy of the civil defense ordinance
as suggested by the council at the last meeting. Motion, by Kasper that we adopt this
civil defense ordinance. Seconded by Topel and car ried un,-Mamously.
The council reviewed the applications for Police officer. Steven Polish of Gettsberg
S. D, and Ronald Confrey of Minneapolis Fere personally interviewed. Motion by
Madsen to hire R. Confrey as full time police officer on a ninty day probationary
period., with a starting salary of $375*00 per mont)X,, to start June 1, 1966.
Seconded by Sandberg and carried.
Motion by Sandberg to hire Rodney Enga as disposal plant operator and madintainenae
man at a salary of $400.00 per month. Seconded by Madsen and carried,
A. A. Anderson resigned as liquor store bartender and two applications were recieved
for this position from Claud Johnston and Vincent Birk. Hiring of a new bartender
tabeled until next meeting,
Mrs G. Ewing sent a letter of resignation as deputy clerk as of the end of June.
Wm. Jongewaard was asked to take o-#er this position but would give no definate
answer at this time. Hiring of new deputy clerk tabeled until next mebting.
Motion by Kasper to approve the following building permits:,Doug Pitt to build a
33 X 10 ft. addition onto the front of his funeral home on lots l-& 2 block B
lower Monticello; William Bellac� to build an addition onto his garage 6 ft. in
'width on lot 8 block F; Jg E. YladspA.Y Won
23 x 60 ft addition onto the north
r
- side of his welding shop of stees lot 1 block 16; and Gerald Barthel
to construct a new basement with a double garage under his home on lot 8 block 44.
Motion seconded by Topel and carried.
The clerk was instructed to call F. Brenteson and Bob Eull to give an estimate on
completing the covering of the dump,
Motion by Madsen to transfer $6.,000.00 from the Water fund to the Waterworks Sinking
fund. Seconded by Kasper and carried.
There was discussion on parks and possable purchasing of some additional park be=hes.
Motion by Sandberg to pay the bills as read. Seconded by Topel and carried.
There was discussion of aquisition of Flynns airport as a villageAar i port,
Prior th the, calling oft his meeting to, order there was a represatitive of the State
highway department present explaining their proposed drainage of the diamond inter-
change. The council discussed the probable need of having an engineering firm
check the area south of the railroad tracks for installation of storm and sanitatory
sewers. This discussion also included the posibality of the State and Village
jointly installing a large drainage the from the area of the interchange to the
river. I
