City Council Minutes 01-03-1967January 3, 1967
Regul.-Ii-r meeting of tie villaT-- council "t-lield tris date in the village hall.
Members present- Erlandson., Kasper,, Topel, Sandberg and Schaffer. Absent- None.
Dr. J. A. Kasper and Edward Scl-laffer were sworn in as councilmen by Mayor Erlandson.
Motion by Erlandsen that Kasper be hired as temporary bookkeeper and be given athom,ity
to sign checks and other documents as village clerk until a perminant clerk is hired,
'gages to be set at $1.75 per hour. Seconded by Sandberg and carried.
Minutes of the meeting of December 6th were approved as read.
Mrs Ellison was asked to have a sign designed for Ellison Park and to present the
design to the council for approval.
J. Crelly of Hillcrest Safety Equipment Co, showed the council three traffic radar
units priced at $995.00., $1140.00 and $1295-00. He offered $200.00 as a trade in
price for our old unit. The Police dept. requested that the village purchase the
unit priced at $1140.00. Tabeled for furtner c6nsideration.
The following bids were recieved for refuge halling: Rackliffo Sanitation -$375.00 per
month; Big Lake Sanitation -$350.00 per month; Als Sanitation- $300.00 per month.
Motion by Kasper that the contract be awarded to Als Sanitation to start February lst
provided a satis#actory contract can be entered into., and satisfactory bond and
indurance be provided by Als sanitation by that date.. and that Rackliffe Sanitation
be paid $375-00 for the month of January 1967 for refuge halling. Motion seconded by
Topel and carried,
J. L. Brouillard proposed that he would do insect spraying for the village for $6-.59
per hourplus the cost of the materials provided he could least the sprayer from the
village for $250.00 per year. He agreed to maintain the machine in good working
condition provided the village first put this machine in good working condition.
Motion by Topes that we enter into a one year contract with Jo Brouillard with the
above terms agreed to. Seconded by Kasper and carried.
Motion by Topel to raise tine salary of R. Enga to $42-5.00 per month starting January
1, 1967, Seconded by Schaffer and carried.
A letter was recieved from Marsh & McLennan telling that our Liquor Legal Liability
insurance would be discontinued as of February 1, 1967. Motion by Kasper that we
reobtain orr Liquor Legal liability insurance from Monticello Agency.0 Seconded by
Topel and carried.
Motion by Sandberg that we grant a permit to 1,1idwest Petroleum Equipment Service Co,
to install two new underground tanks at the old Mobil station at Broadway and Locust.
Seconded by Schaffer and carried.
Motion by Kasper that we extend Skelly oil Co. building permit for one year. Seconded
by Sandberg and carried.
Motion by Topel that we hire William Pugh and Norbert Fiereck as part time bartenders.
Seconded by Kasper and carried.
The following appointments were made by Mayor Erlandson for 1967: Health Officer. Dr.
F. E. Ellison; Official Depository- Wright County StAte Bank; Official Newspaper -
Monticello Times; Acting Mayor- Wm, Sandberg; Liquor committee- Kasper and Topel;
Street and Sewer co=Ittee- Sandberg and Schaffer; Park Corned ttee- Ojakangas and
W.Vigen; Plaining comrdttee- the present members reappointed with W. Ojakangas as
chairman. Motion by Schaffer that we approve the above appointments. Seconded by
Topel and carried.
Motion by Sandberg that we pay the bills as read. Seconded by Topel and carried.
18 written applications for Village clerk were reviewed byte council. Six of these
were chosen to be called in for personal interview.
