November 6, 1969
Special meeting-, of the Village Council held this time and date at the Village
Hall. i'iembers presents Mayor Sandberg; Councilmen " Schaffer j, Swanberg,` 1,1a.us , and k'
Schleif. Members absent: None. The purpose of this meeting was to oAvaa canvas
the election results,and-discuss meeting with the school board on November 3, 1969,
and to approve of a bond for the American Legion Post #260„
14otion by Councilman Swanberg to approve of the results of the election as
reported by the election judges and to eopl.;-y certify them correcta.s follows:
For mayor, Mr. William Sandberg 205 votes and Donald Granlund 209 votes, �1r. Donald
Gra.nlund declared elected. For trustee: ix* Richard L. YArtie 261 votes and
Mr. Donald Dorf 145 votes; Mrs, Richard L. 'iyiartie declared elected. For justice of
peace: Mr. Rill I. McPherson 363 votes, Mr. Rill I. McPherson declared elected.
For constable: Mr. Perry Walters 71 votes, Mr. Perry Walters declared elected.
I,lotion seconded by Councilman Maus and carried. Votin; ares: 'Mayor
Sandberg; Councilmen Schaffer, Swanberg, Maus, and Schleif. Voting no: None.
Mayor Sandberg anounced that in conjunction with the meeting that the Council
had with the school board on November 3, 1969, at the Monticello High School regarding
the Fourth Street issue, he was appointing Councilman Schleif and himself to tke
meet vrith two members of the school board to try to resolve the above issue. 14ayor
&mdberg asked the Council to approve of the above appointments. Ylotion by Council-
man Swanberg to approve of the appointment of l-+ayor Sandberg and Councilman Schleif
to the Village two man negotiating team that will mdet with the Independent School
District #882 two man negotiating team to attempt to resolve the Fourth Street issue„
1146tion seconded by Councilman P1aus and carried. Voting yes: Playor Sandberg;
Councilmen Schaffer, Swa.nbdrg, Maus, ' and Schleif. Voting no: None,.
Council further discussed their part of the agreement to start the negotiation
with th Independent School District #882 which was that they agreed to barricade
during school hours that portion of Fourth Street until December 18, 1969. Lotion
by Councilman Maus to barricade that portion of Fourth Street extending in a
westerly direction from Pine Street, :dock 17, Upper Monticello to vehicular traffic
during the hours school is in seesion until December 18, 1969. 11-11otion seconded
by Councilman Swanberg and carried. Voting yes: Councilmen Schaffer, Swanberg,
Tpus, and Schleif. Voting no: Mayor Sandberg.
Council discuss6the request from Nortrern States Power Company that the
Village accept their petition to annex a portion of their property abuting the
westerly Village limits (Lots 11 and 12, Block 5, River Terrace, Monticello Town-
ship) to the Village of Monticello. Council requested that the Village Clerk.
Treasurer notify the Village Planning Commission of the above request and have
them submit their views on the above request in writing to the Council,..
yaotion by Councilman 1111.us to approve of a beer and liquor license bond of
$3000.00 for the American Legion Post 260. Motion seconded by Councilman Schaffer
and carried. Voting yes: Mayor Sandberg; Councilmen Schaffer, Swa.nberg, Klaus,
and Schleif. Voting no: None.
