REFERENCE AND BACKGROUND
At this time the Planning Commission is asked to adopt a resolution supporting the
approval and adoption of the Monticello, Minnesota 2008 Comprehensive Plan.
Over the past two years, the City has worked to develop a comprehensive plan that
will guide the City's immediate and future land use policy. In developing the plan,
the City has held community meetings, neighborhood meetings, task force sessions,
and joint City Council and Planning Commission workshops.
The feedback from these sessions provided the foundation for the proposed 2008
Comprehensive Plan. The plan has been available for public comment since January,
2008. The required notification of this comprehensive plan hearing was published in
the April 17th and 24th issues of the Monticello Times, and an the City's website.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
1. Motion to adopt a resolution supporting the approval and adoption of the
Monticello, Minnesota 2008 Comprehensive Plan.
2. Motion to deny adoption of a resolution supporting the approval and adoption
of the Monticello, Minnesota 2008 Comprehensive Plan.
3. Motion of other.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff has taken part in the public information sessions noted above and believes the
document to be representative of the vision and framework for future growth
discussed during those sessions. Staff has reviewed the proposed document
thoroughly and recommends alternative 1 above.
It is noted that this comprehensive plan requires the completion of the Transportation
Plan as an additional chapter, and calls out specific next steps for supporting the goals
of the plan.

RESOLUTION NO.
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE APPROVAL AND ADOPTION OF THE
MONTICELLO, MINNESOTA 2008 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
WHEREAS, the City adopted a Comprehensive Plan in ,and;
WHEREAS, it is in the City's best interest to reevaluate its comprehensive plan and
consider and analyze changes that have occurred over the years, and
WHEREAS, the City, through its Planning Commission and other committees and
groups, has undertaken a thorough analysis of changes occurring since the last
Comprehensive Plan and studied projected future development, and anticipated demands
regarding public infrastructure, facilities and services, and;
WHEREAS, the attached 2008 Comprehensive Flan for the City of Monticello has been
prepared for review and approval by the City Council, and;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Planning Commission for the City of
Monticello, that it hereby recommends that the City Council approve and adapt the 200$
Comprehensive Plan for the City.

REFERENCE AND BACKGROUND
The Planning Commission has requested that the City begin work on amendments to
the City's sign ordinance.
Staff would propose the fallowing workshop dates. These dates fall on the 2nd
Tuesday of alternating months, which was the schedule Planning Commission had set
aside for special ordinance amendment -related meetings.

It is proposed that at least two Council members also attend these workshops. It is
also recommended that if possible, same of these beheld earlier in the day (3:00 or
4:00 PM) to facilitate input from Monticello organizations and business owners.
