December 2, 2008

Members present: Branch Manager Debbie Luken, Ralph Olsen, Janet Bridgland,
Sandra Lommel, City Council Liaison Susie Wojchouski,
Member Absent: Beth Osiek
Minutes of the September meeting were read and approved.
Old Business:
➢ Deb will talk with the Friends of the Monticello Library at their January
meeting regarding new signs for the Library. Susie recommended Laser
Memories of Monticello as a possible source for signs.
Library Report — Debbie Luken:
➢ Over 52,000 items were checked out during the last three months,
averaging 17,484 per month. Internet usage has increased with addition of
2 stations, averaging 886 sessions per month. In addition, a number of
patrons are making use of wireless capabilities.
➢ Fall programs were extremely successful; Preschool story times, Toddler
Time, Baby Bounce, Teen Anime, and Bilingual programs. 173 children
attended Brodini the Magician during MEA week and there was a special
"Haunting" event for teens during Teen Read Week. The Holiday Craft Class
in December has been filled for a month.
➢ Banned Books display for Banned Books Week was very popular.
➢ 178 Kindergartners from Pinewood Elementary visited in October and Swan
River visits weekly.
➢ GRRL Updates: Credit cards are accepted as payment for fines. E -mail
notification of holds has been expanded to notification of materials due.
New database addition: Chilton's on -line.
➢ The Friends will sponsor Minnesota author, William Kent Krueger on the
evening of February 12, 2009.
➢ Use of Rosetta Stone was questioned by Janet. Deb reported that it is not
good. Suggestions were made to promote this tool such as; send info to the
Monticello Times and Cargill, let the High School, Middle School, and
Elementary schools know about it.
City Council Report:
➢ Nothing for the Library at this time.
Friends of the Library Report (Representative absent, Sandy reported)
➢ Jerrie Ahrens has been appointed to the Friends Board.
➢ Sandy Lommel attended the Friends Meet Friends gathering at the St.
Cloud Library on Saturday, November 1.
➢ Books for Babies have been purchased through the GRRL. The Friends will
pay for the books.
➢ Genealogist Tom Rice spoke at the Senior Center. The event was well
attended.
➢ Family Game night in October was not well attended.
New Business:
➢ None
The next Board meeting will be Tuesday, March 3 at 5:00 P.M.
Ralph made a motion to adjourn meeting, Sandy seconded.
