City Council Resolution 2024-51CITY OF MONTICELLO WRIGHT COUNTY RESOLUTION 2024-51 A RESOLUTION CONCERNING RECORDING OF WRITE-IN VOTES WHEREAS, the City of Monticello regularly holds elections for local elective office; and WHEREAS, voters at the elections may cast a ballot for a write-in candidate for a local elective office; and WHEREAS, in 2023, the Minnesota Legislature amended Minnesota Statute, Section 204B.09, subdivision 3, authorizing the City to adopt a resolution governing the counting of write-in votes for local elective office; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Minnesota Statute 204B.09, subdivision 3(b)(2), by adopting a resolution the City may require that write-in votes for an individual candidate only be individually recorded if the total number of write-in votes for that office is equal to or greater than the fewest number of non -write-in votes for a ballot candidate; and WHEREAS, to better administer the City's local elections for office the City Council desires to implement the authority provided in Minnesota Statute 20413.09, subd.3(b)(2). NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Monticello, Wright County, Minnesota, that write-in votes for an individual candidate for local elective office shall only be individually recorded if the total number of write-in votes for that office is equal to or greater than the fewest number of non -write-in votes for a ballot candidate.
