Library Minutes 03-13-2018Monticello Library Board Meeting Minutes Tuesday, March 13, 2018 Call to Order Janet Bridgland called to order the regular meeting of the Monticello Library Board at 5:30 p.m. at the Monticello Library. Roll Call Teri Willenbring conducted a roll call. The following persons were present: Brandi Canter, Janet Bridgland, Shea Roskowiak, Sarah Seeley, Teri Willenbring, Charlotte Gabler, Julie Spiers. Absent: Beth Metzger, Jamie Driscoll. Approval of Minutes from Last Meeting Charlotte motioned to approve the December 12, 2017 meeting minutes. Shea seconded. All approved. Motion carried. Old Business No old business. Library Report - Sarah Seeley Monticello circulation for the year-end was down 3.9 % from 2016; circulation for the year totaled 182,986. Internet use was at 7,304 and Wi-Fi accessed 3,963 times total, about the same as 2016. As of the end of 2017, Monticello presented 290 programs attended by 5,336 individuals. Monticello's Winter Reading Program broke records with 284 participants (up 191%). Mugs, hats, t-shirts and such (donated by Friends of Monticello Library and GRRL) were given out to approx. 70 winners. Monticello will be highlighting authors and local aspiring writers for 2018 (an instructor from The Loft is presenting (Legacy funded), Frank Weber in February and Sisters in Crime in May). LEGO Club, READ with Mauer and other programs doing well. Teen program varies in participants, however the library is in plans for the summer teen advisory and orientation sessions. Monticello is a GRRL pilot library that started a branch-specific Facebook page. To date there are almost 300 followers. This should enhance the library's relationship within the community and may reach other populations. Two of the library's rooms were repainted. Locally Grown - Each GRRL library selected a goal to raise money for a certain project. To date, Monticello has received 1/4 of the $800 goal that will be needed to purchase bounded back issues of the Monticello Times and a shelving display to hold them. Patron Services Supervisor Report - Brandi Canter GRRL will be adding two new platforms to the digital collection in 2018: Axis 360 - eBooks and eAudiobooks; MN Writes MN Reads - local authors can create eBooks to be accessed through anyone in MN with the possibility of national exposure. Both accessed through www.griver.org/services/e-books. Library card design contest is going on now thru April 30; two categories - children (thru age 12) and teen/adult. Winners, decided by staff, will have their design on library cards starting this September. State and national library issues - State's Library Construction Grant and the national Library Services and Technology Act (interlibrary loans, Braille/Talking Book Library, etc.). Sign up on mnlibraryadvocacy.org. New Business New chairman election. Teri made a motion to nominate Shea to be the new library board chairperson. Charlotte seconded. All in favor. Motion carried. The library's application was sent in for the Riverfest parade. An email will be sent out before June asking for volunteers. Each adult volunteer must submit a background check.
