Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, September 8, 2020
I. Call to Order
Marla called to order the regular meeting of the Monticello Library Board at 5:30 p.m.
at the Monticello Library.
II. Roll Call
Shea conducted a roll call. The following persons were present: Marla Scherber, Beth
Metzger, Brandi Canter, Shea Roskowiak. Absent: Julie Spiers,
III. Approval of Minutes from Last Meeting
Beth motioned to approve the June 9, 2020, meeting minutes. Shea seconded. All
approved. Motion carried.
IV. Library Report - Marla Scherber
a) As of August 31, the Monticello Public Library circulation was at 64,020 -
down 46.5% over the same period in 2019. Check-out sessions totaled 6,885
for June; 7,988 for July and 10,845 for August.
b) Unfortunately, all of the in -person, in -library programs have been cancelled
for the rest of the calendar year. We have continued offering virtual programs
and encouraging participation with reading programs (including the Summer
Reading Program) with the Beanstack app. We offer 1-2 Take & Make crafts a
week, and these have been very well received and have been a good way to
get people back into the library.
c) Phased reopening allowed us to gradually offer more services to the patrons.
In July, we began to allow patrons to come in to the facility for computer
reservations, and for browsing by appointment. We quickly learned that it was
easier to just open the doors to a "Grab & Go" model, and invite patrons in
like normal. The only difference is that we are encouraging a short stay.
d) We moved one of our front desk computers to a new area which enabled us to
work and keep socially distant.
V. Patron Services Supervisor Report - Brandi Canter
VI. Old Business
a) Facility updates - plumbing and phone issues.
VII. New Business
a) The biggest issue has been notifying the patrons that GRRL Monticello is, in
fact, open. We purchased 2 "feather flags" to plant in the ground to say
"OPEN" and "WELCOME." These will be put out near the corner of Walnut
and 6r' Street and in front of the driveway into the library parking lot. We also
have some custom made banners and sandwich board signage that GRRL will
be getting for us.
b) Covid-19 update and staffing situation - down two staff members (baby and
retirement). Will reevaluate staffing after September.
c) New board applications to fill one vacancy - Discussed five applicants with
decision to rank by preference. Due to Marla (only!) via email by Friday.
VIII. Adjournment
Marla adjourned the meeting at 6:05 p.m. Beth seconded. All approved. Motion carried.
Next meeting: December 8, 2020, 5:30 p.m.
