2. Library Report(s) (Marla)
3. GRRL Update(s) (Ryan)

a. Gardening and Landscaping plan (Linda McDermott). Polinator-friendly
perennials planted with some to spare in case they don't make it.
More funding and want to continue the same theme down the block.
b. Painting of the doors by the front entry —owned by Excel Energy? Still no word
here?
c. Collaboration between us and Community Center with Raptor Center program on
August 30. We had 77 people come all ages.
d. New roof put on in August. Flashing is ordered, but not in the original color
(burgundy). as it was not available anymore. We will be getting it in an Ash Gray
color.
e. Summer Reading program successful. Participant totals were: 106 teens (12-18),
540 kids (ages 3-12), and 97 Read to Me (ages 0-3). Total participants = 743!
Not quite to 2019 numbers, (1159 total) but much closer than last year (377).
5. New Business —
a. We hired a new Library Aide
b. Collaboration between us and Community Center with Grandparent's Day
program on Sept. 15. More programs like this to come —including St. Patrick's
Day.
c. Planning for additional shelving (Jeff Jansen, local cabinet maker will make us 2
shelving units for our kids books for $2200). Also needing new carpet in the
future, but aware that a new boiler is also needed. Might have to prioritize.
d. Fall Book Sale is October 6-8, 2022
6. Next Library Board Meeting — December 13 @ 5:30 p.m.
In response to COVID-19 and pursuant to Minnesota Statute Chapter 12. Emergency

personally present at the regular Monticello Public Library location. The meeting will be
conducted electronically via Zoom. Members of the public may provide public comment and/or

Quarter: July -September
Year: 2022
Statistics
As of August 31, 2022, the Monticello Public Library circulation was at 96,529. June's
circulation was at 13,386, July's was 13,226, and August's was 13,377. We dipped
below our previous year's percentage by 1.5%.
Programs
Legacy: Pint Sized Polkas 34, Joan Jacobson's art class 14, Mobile Sign Shop 60,
The Dollipops 40, Magic Bob 50, Creative Cart Studio 48, Dazzling Dave 41, Mark
Rivard Skateboard Art 13.
Many other great craft, storytime and passive programs were held to keep the library
relevant all summer long. Our SRP participation was up from 377 in 2021 to 746 this
year.
Building/Maintenance Issues
We are still waiting to hear from Xcel Energy to see if we can paint the remaining
green doors located just to the left of our front entrance. Obviously, we are past
painting season, but hopefully someone will be able to finish the burgundy paint job in
the sag senor fall.
We worked with the city and a Master Gardener, Linda McDermott with the
landscaping and gardening issues on the library grounds, and those surrounding the
library including the raised beds on Walnut Street. We were disappointed in the
flowers they planted in our planters, but we purchased some more to beef up the
planters from the Friends, and now they look great.
Staffing Update
We have hired a new library Aide, who started in July, Caroline B., and we hope to
have one more aide in place in the next 2 weeks. We completed interviews last week
and we just need to make the phone call to offer the position, which I'll be doing
tomorrow.
