Quarter: June -August Year: 2021 Statistics As of August 31, 2021, the Monticello Public Library circulation was at 98,016 YTD, up 53.1 % over the same period in 2020. June's checkout sessions totaled 13,630, July: 14,439 and August: 13,602. September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, so it is usually a big month for card renewals and new patron registration. We are encouraging sign-ups and card usage with Tootsie Tuesdays ---show your library card and get a free Tootsie Roll. Programs We resumed in -person programming in Mid -June! Michele Forsman, a former Library Assistant, and Marilyn Dirkswager offered some story times, and both offered some in -person crafting programs sponsored by the City of Monticello. We still offer Take & Make crafts, which are very popular, every other Tuesday. Kids come in to pick up a craft kit they can take home and make. Kits include directions and supplies, and are sponsored by the Monticello Friends of the Library. Legacy programs have also resumed regionally. Some were virtual, like the Doug Ohman Minnesota State Parks program, and some in person. Monticello hosts its first in -person Legacy program on September 21 with "Old MacDonald Had a Banjo," a fun, interactive music program for all ages. The Friends of the Library, weather permitting, held mini -book sales on the lawn during Farmer's Market days. Most of the sales netted $60-$150 in sales, so that was a good way to cull the huge amount of donations they've received. A September 23-27 Fall Book Sale is planned. Building/Maintenance Issues The outside green doors were painted to match our window trim (a nice shade of burgundy), and we are waiting to hear from Xcel Energy to see if we can paint the remaining green doors located just to the left of our front entrance. Jerry said the doors and the contents are actually operated and maintained by Xcel, so the city is not supposed to tamper with them without Xcel's permission.) Hopefully, they will approve. We are on track to have the carpets clean sometime this fall. We are waiting to find out what day. Staffing Update We hired an aide, Logan Johnson in June, but after only 2 months, he resigned. We are now looking to hire an aide and a Library Assistant. The Library Assistant position will be 10.25 hours a week and the new Aide position will be 11 hours a week. The summer months proved to be busier, and we were able to request and disperse some of those hours to both positions, as we are moving towards adding additional programming, and have been seeing an increase in circulation.
