Quarter: January -March Year: 2021
Statistics
As of February 28, 2021, the Monticello Public Library circulation was at 23,196, down 10.8%
over the same period in 2020. Check-out sessions totaled 11,152 for December with a YTD of
112,334 (a decrease of 34.5% for the year from 2019). 2021 is beginning to look a bit brighter, as
our circulation was 11,778 for January and 11,418 for February, (a decrease of -10.1 % and
10.8% respectively,) so the decrease is getting closer to the positive side! March statistics were
unavailable at the time of this update.
Programs
Programs continue to be only offered virtually or in a Take & Make fashion as of this time. We
have offered at least two Take & Make crafts a month in January and February and will begin to
offer some other Crafts for Adults and Teens moving into spring and early summer. We tried to do
a Facebook Live storytime in December, but there was no interest and nobody signed up.
We hesitate to do more of these as they take a considerable amount of time to coordinate, plan
and put together, and if no one signs up, it's not a good use of our resources or time. Some
branches seem to have some success with these, but others do not.
Building/Maintenance Issues
We were able to get six additional Plexiglass panels from the City of Monticello which we were
able to place on our front desk for added safety. They were used by the city for voting, and we
have them on loan. They were going to be put into storage, so they offered to loan them to us as
long as we need them, and for as long as they don't. Other than the occasional light bulb burning
out, the only maintenance issue that continues is the toilet issues that still cause difficulty
occasionally.
Winter maintenance has been excellent from our city. We've yet to receive a complaint about our
sidewalks, parking lot or drive -through bookdrop lane. It does look like the dumpster doors were
damaged somehow recently, and we are unable to open them anymore. If we have garbage that
doesn't fit into our regular garbage can, we have to loft it up and over the doors.
Hours changes
Our new hours have proven to be well -received by our patrons, and our staff. They went into
effect on January 2, 2021, and we like how they fit with this community, and appreciate the
consistency.
Staffing Update
We re -hired Brooke Derner back as one of our new Library Assistants. She left us in August when
she had a baby boy. She was excited to re -interview for the job, and with her great rapport with
patrons, she is a welcome (back) addition to our staff. We also welcome Ryan McCormick as our
new Patron Services Supervisor. Ryan brings lots of experience and an excitement to begin his
same role but new branches for him. (More in his report.)
