Statistics
As of January 31, the Monticello Public Library circulation was at 13,095 - down 3.9% over the
same period in 2019. Check-out sessions totaled 2194 for January. February's statistics were not
ready at the time of this report.
We continue to have great support from the City of Monticello and the Friends of the Library, who
helped us with additional prizes for the Winter Reading Program and supplies for the various
programs we offered. To date the Monticello Public Library has presented 52 programs for
children, teens, and adults with a total attendance of 660.
Programs
Our Winter Reading Program this year had a new twist added. Patrons could either log their
reading the old-fashioned way, by paper, or digitally through the Beanstack app. Qualified
registration slips (10 days read, 30 days read and 50 days read) were drawn every week and
prizes like mugs, blankets and hats were awarded to drawing winners. Because of the new dual -
registration method, it will be hard to compare to last year's numbers, but in total, we had 173
register the old way, and 52 Beanstack registrations. We offered two Amazon Kindle Fires as
grand prizes locally, and GRRL offered a $25 Gift Card to the We currently have a slow roll out of
Beanstack to the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program and will plan on using it for the
upcoming Summer Reading Program as well.
Our regular programs like storytime, book club for adults, LEGO Club, and continue to draw
patrons in. We also introduced a new monthly craft program called, "ProCRAFTinators," and will
be introducing another monthly offering, "Creative Creations" next week. Both are getting some
great interest!
We are in the middle of our "Locally Growin"' fundraising campaign. This year's goal is $1000 to
help us book the Raptor Center and to add to our LEGO collection to be able to offer some more
LEGOs for our successful LEGO programs. We also started a twice -monthly Conversation Circles
program that is designed to help English learners practice their English skills in a safe and friendly
environment. It's been a great addition to our Thursday evenings.
Eastview Education Center's Kindergarten classes are coming! We had half of the classes come
for a storytime and tour last week, and the other half will come on Tuesday, March 10. This is a
great way to introduce some of our youngest community members to the library.
Building/Maintenance Issues
We are excited to hear the lighting bids went through the city approval and are going forward.
We'll be seeing new lights installed this spring sometime. The toilet issues were also discussed,
but I was told by the city maintenance that it would be far too expensive. We'd still like to see if it
could be done in the future, as it is clear that the toilets we have are insufficient to the population

we serve. Painting the programming room would have to be done in the fall, after the majority of our large SRP programs
are completed. New carpeting will have to need to be discussed in the new budget year.
