RESOLUTION NO. 2026-14
RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SEWER EXTENSION IN THE
NORTHWEST AREA
WHEREAS, the City of Monticello completed a Strategic Transition Plan and the plan
concluded that an emphases on growth potential in the northwest area would have the most
impact on creation of jobs and the creation, stabilization, and diversification of tax base to help
mitigate the tax base and employment loss from the potential closure of Xcel Energy's
Monticello Nuclear Generating Facility; and
WHEREAS, the City of Monticello completed an Industrial Feasibility Study which further
supported a focus on the northwest areas as a priority growth area; and
WHEREAS, the Monticello 2040 Comprehensive Plan identifies the northwest growth
area as a strategic location for future employment and industrial development, helping the City
attract investment, expand its tax base, and support long-term economic growth; and
WHEREAS, the Monticello 2040 Comprehensive Plan identifies that directing growth to
the northwest area with coordinated infrastructure and land -use guidance will allow the City to
manage development efficiently; and
WHEREAS, After the completion of a feasibility study it was determined that the
construction of a trunk sanitary sewer line to serve the northwest area would be the best way
to provide sanitary sewer service to the northwest area.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF MONTICELLO,
MI NNESOTA:
1. That the City Council supports the construction of a sanitary sewer extension and is
committed to providing matching funds to complete the construction of the project.
