Annual Tour of Parks
1. Mississippi Drive Park - (Maxwell bench)
The Parks Department has been working on this area to control the weeds.
2. River Mill Park
The phase one development of the River Mill Park was on schedule. Additional engineering
might be required because of the high water table in this area.
3.
Freeway Fields
Gregg Engle, Park Superintendent, reported to the Commissioners that this park had been
scheduled for an enclosed shelter however the way the drainage was designed made the original
plan hard to work with. Mr. Engle asked the Commissioners opinion on changing the plan to an
open air shelter instead. This would allow the water to drain and still provide some shelter from
the weather. There were questions on storage of ball field equipment if there is not an enclosed
shelter. Mr. Engle stated he would probably add a small storage building that could be used for
storage. Another request was to add a batters cage in this park.
4.
Meadow Oak Park
A new playground was added to this park.
5. Oak Ridge - Outlot A
A. Wetland area, green space.
6. Wildwood Ridge (Watertower Park)
The outlot areas were discussed that were dedicated to the City and left as natural areas
7.
Cardinal Hills Park
This park is complete however the Parks Department has to monitor the volleyball area. Each
week there is repair on the poles and nets from vandalism more than use.

8. Cardinal Hills Tot
Large trees were transplanted in this park. The playground equipment will be added yet this
year.
9. Pioneer Park and expansion area.
Gregg Engle, Park Superintendent, has been working with Lions on various projects in this park.
A pathway had been mowed through the wetland area and the residents had been using it. Mr.
Engle also informed the Commissioners that the High School Cross Country Team would be
practicing and holding meets in this park. There would be many decisions on type, style, and
location of playground equipment, shelters, etc. for the next phase of this park.
The Commissioners viewed the wooded area to the south of the park. This area could be given as
park dedication when the plat in this area is developed. The Commissioners discussed the
advantages of having a wooded buffer area between the park and the residential area and also the
natural amenity that would be saved. The disadvantage would be the size of the park to
maintain. This' would be discussed further in the future.
10.
Par West Park
The Commissioners commented on the improved appearance of this park. The disk golf offered
a new activity that was not offered in any other park.
11. Prairie West Park - Adopted by Rotary Club
This park was on schedule. Many of the wildflowers and grasses were starting to be established
along the pathway. There is still future plans of adding an informational gazebo to this park.
12. East Bridge Park-
The Commissioners toured the garden areas and were very impressed by the size of the flower
areas. This was adopted by MCP.
13. Ellison Park - (Girl Scout Garden area)
