1. Call meeting to order.
Chair Sandra Theros called the meeting to order at 4:39 p.m.
2. Consideration of adding items to the agenda.
A. CMAB Public Art Grant: Kitty Baltos said that she found a grant from the Central
Minnesota Art Board. There are a number of dates for grant applications to receive
funding to purchase art for public display. You could also utilize the funding to pay
an artist to come in as long as it's going to be displayed publicly. The grant funding
cannot be used for planning.
Kitty said that she would like to take down the photos /art on the wall along the
corridor of the conference rooms. Those photos have been there for 14 years and
some of it is getting faded. She would like to take it out and repaint the whole wall.
Due to the sunlight they would have to do a low -e glass to protect from the sunrays, a
film on the windows or thin shades.
Kitty said she wants it to be local artists in the area and something that has to do with
Monticello. Suggestions included contacting the Plymouth Creek Center as they do
rotating art displays ranging from oil paintings, to water color to photography. They
display the artwork and it's all for sale. Kitty said that she was thinking about
contacting local professional photographers, and it was suggested that she speak with
the Art Emporium as well.

A. Usage summary through January 2014:
The complete usage summary worksheet through January 2014 was included in the

1,000 more people.
B. Director's Report:
The complete Manager's Monthly Update was included in the agenda packet to the
Advisory Board.
Kitty Baltos discussed a few issues included in the monthly update. One issue has
been the credit card breach at Target. There have been a record number of payment
changes and declined credit cards due to the Target security issue. Staff has done a
great job contacting the customers.
Tricia Menth has been very busy with room rental calls and birthday parties. Sara
Cahill has been very busy with Silver & Fit members and insurance changes.
Online program registration will begin testing this week to work the kinks out and if
all goes well it will be ready to go next week when swim lesson registrations begin.
Kitty said they hired a new league manager and they are very excited about her. She
started last week. They already have people calling on summer softball leagues.
There are four teams interested in hockey but need a minimum of six teams to run
that effectively.
The community garden is open for registration. The registration cost is $27 per plot
and there are currently 18 plots sold with 30 plots available.
Kitty was excited to announce that they have the possibility of purchasing gently
used spin bikes from the city of Minnetonka. There are 19 bikes available for about
$4,000; this is a quarter of the price of new bikes. Kitty said that she has instructors
who can teach spin classes.

Kitty has staff on for the event and there will be volunteers from the Friends of
Bertram as well. When the sculpting contest judging is over, then the movie,
Despicable Me 2, will start and free popcorn will be provided during the movie.
D. Suggestion Box Items:
A complete list of suggestion box items was included in the agenda packet to the
Advisory Board.
Kitty Baltos discussed a few items, including adding a heavy bag by the Rip60 Stuff.
Kitty said that she's contemplating adding a heavy bag but she is lacking the space.
There was a suggestion for a men's basketball league and Kitty said there is a league
through Monticello Community Ed.
5. Consideration of Groupon promotion in April.
Kitty Baltos said that a rep from Groupon contacted her a while ago about advertising
with them. Kitty said that initially the rep wanted to offer MCC passes in January. Kitty
said that she didn't want to do anything in Jan - Feb -Mar as those are the busiest months
and that may deter new people coming in. Kitty explained the way it works is that
Groupon purchases a certain number of passes at a significantly reduced rate. Then they
go online and promote the MCC, selling the limited number of reduced rate day passes
which have an expiration date on them (which is clearly stated on Groupon). Kitty said
that she's considering advertising with Groupon in April as things slow down then. She
would sell them day passes, including family day passes and single day passes. The pass
gives the patron access to the gym, pool, fitness area and indoor play area. The goal is to
get people here that have never been here before so hopefully they like it and come back
or buy a membership. The Advisory Council was in consensus for Kitty to work with
Groupon to offer the promotion of the MCC. If it is successful they may look into future
Groupon promotions to include birthday party specials. Kitty said that she will use their
salesperson as a guide for how many passes to offer for sale
6. Consideration of recommending website design and costs.
Kitty Baltos distributed the two quotes received for the website development from Gov
Office. The company now offers much more flexibility and offers a more customized
design. Kitty said that she prefers the second quote which includes an auto image slider
feature. Kitty said that she has money available in the advertising budget. The Advisory
Board was in consensus for Kitty to switch the web development and hosting to Gov
Office using the second quote option for a total of $3,250.
