4. Update Items.
A. Usage update through April 2014:
The complete usage summary worksheet through April 2014 was included in the
agenda packet to the Advisory Board.
Kitty Baltos was disappointed to report that April's attendance was much slower
than expected and extremely slower across the board compared to the same time last
year.
Kitty said that they have groups in now every day through the end of the month but
outside of the groups things remain slow. She is hopeful that things will pick up
soon.
Clint Herbst asked Kitty to check into the local pizza delivery places about bringing
in pizzas to sell by the slice when groups are in.

B. Manager's Monthly Update:
The complete Manager's Monthly Update was included in the agenda packet to the
Advisory Board.
Kitty Baltos said that they lost the league manager before the season started as she
took a new job. Kitty said that Tricia has picked it up right now but Kitty is
concerned about Tricia burning out as she now splitting her time here at the MCC
and out at the fields, which consists of 10 hours /week. Clint Herbst suggested trying
to find a teacher to fill the position as they would have the time available with
summers open. The position is paid by the hour. Kitty said that she will talk with
the athletic director at the school, Gary Revenig. Kitty said the position in the
summer would be approximately 15 hours /week and during the school year around 7
hours /week.
Kitty is happy to report that online registration is up and running very well. Kitty
also noted that all of the Community Garden plots are full.
C. Suggestion Box Items:
A complete list of suggestion box items was included in the agenda packet to the
Advisory Board.
Kitty Baltos reviewed the suggestions. One of the suggestions talked about the
music being too loud and not appropriate. Sandra Theros said that one of the
speakers is broken and plays too loud so Kitty will check into that.
Another suggestion asked about having discounted rates for handicap or resident
discounts. Kitty said that MCC does offer a discounted resident rate so she will be
contacting this individual.
The Zumba instructor, Cheryl, took another job and there have been suggestions for
the classes to return. Kitty is looking into finding a new instructor.
5. Old Business.
A. Update on $65,000 budget in improvements:
Kitty Baltos reported that $65,000 includes the gym floor and carpeting. Kitty said
that she is going to hold off on the Romp n Stomp flooring in case they decide to
expand next year.
B. Groupon Promotion:
The Groupon coupons have done well and Kitty noted that 250 coupons have been
sold to date. They will continue to sell the coupons through September 1St

Groupon keeps 80% for any refunds that may come back. Once they're done selling
you get the remaining dollars back. Kitty said now she has been getting calls non-
stop from other businesses since the Groupon came out.
C. Friendship Island to Prairie Center Building:
Kitty said that with the popularity of Friendship Island, the program has grown and
is in need of its own facility. It would be nice to move the program to Prairie Center
to allow it to become a year round program; however, FiberNet said that they are
really concerned about the sound there and it being too loud. Kitty said they are
looking into insulating above the drop ceiling. Kitty said that if this works they will
continue the programming through the school year for before and after school. If so,
they will be required to put in an emergency exit at the back.
D. Security Cameras:
Kitty said the funds have not been budgeted for this year so she is going to look into
a more phased approach to upgrading the cameras. She has received one quote and
is waiting on two additional quotes. Quotes will be brought back to the next meeting
for review.
E. Cooling for Fitn ess Center:
Kitty noted that the maintenance staff will be cleaning the fans and hanging plastic
up at the open end of the new fitness area. Hopefully this temporary fix will be a
difference. They will add signage so guests know what is happening. A quote was
received for a wall cooling unit in the amount of $9,300. This may be an
inexpensive solution to the problem.
6. Discussion on priority setting on capital items.
Capital improvements items were discussed and prioritized on a 1 -5 scale with 1 being
the highest priority and 5 being the lowest priority.
#1 Priority:
• Replace Partitions, Bridge & Mississippi Room.
• New roof over the gym and meetingibanquet rooms: All Elements is coming in
the next couple weeks to provide their opinion of the current shape of the roof and
when to plan to replace, and an approximate quote.
• Permanent home for Friendship Island.

#3 Priority.'
• Canoe /Kayak/SUP Purchase for Bertram Programming.
#S Priority:

buying new may be too cost prohibitive. The glazing lasts for 15 years.
Not Yet Prioritized:
• Sauna: At this time Kitty is awaiting a quote for a sauna. If quote is low higher
prioritization.
Indoor Play Area Expansion: Approximately $55,000; there will be a company
coming out to provide a quote this week. Kitty is going to check and see if there
are other options that may be less expensive.
• Improve cooling capabilities in new fitness center: $8,300.
7. Discussion on minimum wage and how it will affect the Community Center.
Kitty noted that 24% of the MCC employees are minors and 76% are adults. By August,
minimum wage requirements will be $8.00/hour. Kitty noted that many of the positions
that currently start at $7.25 -$7.50 /hour will be affected. This will be a significant hit to
the MCC's budget. By August 2015, the rate will go to $9.00/hour and then $9.50 /hour
by August 2016.
