2. 2018 Budget Presentation and Review
Wayne Oberg, Finance Director, presented the fifth 2018 budget meeting. The budget
presentation noted that the City Council will review the proposed 2018 preliminary tax
levy at the regular meeting following the special meeting. The presentation included
information on tax base changes, tax capacity values and rates, and the debt service levy.
Additional budget items were discussed by the City Council. A list of these items were
presented and, if the City Council so chooses, can add these to the preliminary levy
amount at the regular city council meeting.
The City Council discussed the issue of providing garbage service to mobile home parks
and townhomes at the same rate as residential properties. This was not included in the
preliminary levy amount and, if altered, would result in a decrease in revenue. There was
also discussion about completing some projects from the downtown area study. Wayne
Oberg noted that there are funds from 2017 that could possibly be allocated toward
projects. Continued discussion will take place at the regular city council meeting.
