Parks Commission Minutes 06-05-1997 . . . AGENDA SPECIAL MEETING - TOUR OF PARKS Thursday, June 5,1997.4:30 pm. Members Present: LaITy Nolan, Fran Fair, Earl Smith, Rick Traver Members Absent: Earl Smith Staff Present: Jeff O'Neill, Roger Mack, Wanda Kraemer 1. Call meeting to order. Meeting was called to order by Chairman Nolan. 2. Review entries for park contest. The Commissioners reviewed the 50 names that were entered in the "Name That Park" contest. There was not a consensus for a winning entry. The Commissioners decided to review the names and vote at the regular meeting in June. 3. Tour of Parks and 1998 budget discussion. The following parks were on the tour: 1. 4th Street Park A. Remodel warming house, use present structure for restrooms and add on warming house, (per meeting Hockey Assoc.-remodel restrooms add window) B. Stripe basketball court 2. Fallon Ave Park - across from apt. on 7th Street A. Create a shaded area- possibly a covered picnic table 3. New Plat/Shermer Property The Commissioners walked the land of the future Shermer Property plat. It was decided to only have a small park area at the entry which would have a basketball and/or volleyball court and pathways. The Commission agreed that a park in the area indicated on the plat would be too private and not serve the area's recreational needs. 4. Mississippi Drive Park - (Maxwell bench) A. Roger is meeting with Mrs. Maxwell June 12 to decide on placement. Page 1 5. River Mill Park - ($80,000 in budget for 1999) A. Sign for "Future Park" . 6. Battle Rapids Park - (Sentence to Serve will be working last week in June) 7. Outlot A. name contest - ($12,000 budget for 1997- storage/concession) ($39,000 budget for 1998 - parking lot) 8. Eastwood Knoll- (needs landscaping in front island) 9. Meadow Oak Park - ($2,000 - 1997 - basketball court) A. Add benches by pond 10. Oak Ridge - Outlot A A. Wetland area, green space. 11. Briar Oakes 12. Little Mountain Park (Water Tower) 13. Cardinal Hills Park . 14. Future Cardinal Hills Park 15. Klein Farm Park - ($40,000 in budget year 2000) A. Bird house project with school 16. Country Club Manor 17. Par West Park A. Remove exercise course B. Signs or a way to identify trails through park 18. The Meadows A. Bird Houses 19. Balboul 20. NSP Ball Fields - ($50,000 in budget for 1998 - 3 new fields) . 21. Montissippi Park Page 2 22. Hillcrest Park . 23. Bridge Park - west MCP Design Committee working on plan for re-design of park 24. Prairie West Park- A. Gazebo or informatin center on prairie grass 25. Bridge Park - east 26. Ellison Park 27. Future Pathway Projects A. Riverroad Plaza to Middle School (1997 - $60,000) B. River Walk - Connect Ellison to Mississippi Drive (1997 - $60,000) C. Meadow Oak to Middle School (1997 - $60,000) 4. Added items. . 5. Larry Nolan had requested an article that was in the St. Cloud Times to be read by the Commissions on adopting parks. This would be discussed at the next meeting. Adjourn.
