Shelly suggested that Tom & Allen get in touch with Dee Johnson and set a
meeting to discuss there expansion plans. Tom would like to have Dee come the
week of July 25-29.
There are 10 vacancies on the Energy & Economic Development Authority Board.
Tom will apply for an appointment.
The transportation report to given by Ja Morrell was briefly given by Allen.
The Industrial Day Event was set for September 12, with golfing to be at The
Monticello Country Club. Major discussio concerned industrial open houses.
Should they be all day, with all industries being involved, or just some and
at different times of the day. It was decided to have the open house open to the
public. It was also suggested that Allen! ake a list of all manufacturing
plants to see if they would become invol ,ed, how many people they could take
on a tour at one time, and how long they ou1d care to hold tours during the day.
This report would be ready sa soon as possible.
John Bondus suggested the committe take a critical look at the direction of
retail business. John went on to exp1ain'thatthe committee should keep its emphasis
on industrial development, but could for a 4th sub-committee to head up a
study to determine where retail traffic is from, what types of items people are
interested on, and so forth. Because members of the committee were not present,
it was tabled until the August meeting. t that meeting it should be motioned
and passed that Allen should undertake a inor study on where business is
coming from, and what type of businesses are needed in Monticello. At that
time a policy statement should be drafted and a letter sent to all committee
members to attend the meeting.
It is not the committees function to acti e1y recruit retail business, but if
someone Ap.eks information about retail business in Monticello, it is our re-
sponSibility to i~ a~yway possible. A study such as this would enable the
Committee to deter~tne if Monticello would need a certain type of business
over another type.
This should be the primary discussion of the August meeting.
Tom brought up information regarding the
