City Council Minutes 05-06-1963may 6, 1963 '
Regular meeting of t e village council held this date in the village hall.
Members present- 0 j Akangas, Adams, Baker, Kasper & Swanson. Absent- None.
Minutes of the meeting of April 1, 1963 were approved as read.
11otion by Swanson to hire Roger Tesch as village consult.. --ting attorney on a X15.00
per month retainer . Seconded by Adams & carried.
Rev. Donis requested the councils help in stoping the celebration of the 1101d.
Mississippi Days" celebration in the park on Sunday, as it interfeered with his
Religous services. Swanson & Baker -.ere appointed to talk with -'the Chamber of
Cormilerce and Rev. Donis to see if some type of comprimise could be arrainged.
E. Linderl'elser -requested permission through his attorney, 11. Goggins, to be
allowed to continue oiler ation of his used car lot in block 1 of lower. I onticell o.
Tklotion by Kasper to renew the permit of E. Lindenfelser to operate a used car lot
in block 1 of loti-,e-_- 11onticello. Trio seconed.
A complaint iTas recieved by J. I.Iiller regarding the vacating of New street between
fourth street and the railroad right of way. No action taken.
T. Kealy requested permission to operate a portable consession stand in Monticello.
11r. Kealy agreed to try to find an off the highway parking spot for this stand.
The Hospitol association requested that Elm street be vacated between Broadway and
River streets and between River street and the River, They also requested some
relief on their assessidnts. Tabeled until after election on the Hospitol Building
Fund Bonds.
The hospitol board further requested that the village council appoint three election
judges for there election to be held I,Iay 21, 1963.
Motion by Adams to appoint Wm. Jonge�yaard, ��. So3i au and W i. Schneider as election
judges and, to pay for they. -e services out of the village general .fund, Seconded by
Swanson and carried.
Motion by Kasper to approve the following buildin pec�iits: R. Ueorges to build
12 x 20 foot addition to the back of the house on lot 5, block O H. Osell to build
a 16 x 16 foot bedroom, addition on tree northwedt corner of his housewart of lots
11 & 12 of block 48; Bert Hiedke to build a 56 x 28 foot house -vri - c garage
on lot 11 and part of 6 in block 36 of Lower I.`onticello; and Charles StmTpf to build
a 44 x 30 foot house on the east Ralf of lot 4 and all of lof 5 in block 260 iiotion
seconded by Swanson and carried.
R. Menzel requests a raise in pay. I. -lotion by Baker to grant R. Menzel a raise to$380.00
per month. Seconded by Adams & carried.
The clerk was instructed to write tb the State Highway Dept. requesting perrv.svion
for 1:•. Shinler to construct a driveway enterance to his property located at 519
West Broadway.
Motion by Baker to appoint A. McIntire and T. Kea1ly to the summer Recreation Board.
Seconded by Swanson and carried.
The cl r'jL was instructed to p»t an add. in Cho paper requesting applicants as
building inspector for any new construction in the village.
Motion by Swanson to renew the Taxi cab license of II. Iilensel. Seconded by Baker
and carried.
A. McIntire req__uested that E. Bland be hired as part time police officer. Tabeled

Iiotion by Kasper to approve the fire departments eliection of Tor=.i IcLeod as fire
Chief. Seconded by Barer and, carried.
A written request was recieved from Velma Halldorf to park a trailor house on the
lot in back of the house located at 406 E. Broadi-ray. Request denied as itis contrary
to village ordinance.
Twlotion by SibTan.son to approve bills as read. Seconded by Adams & carried.
Motion by Kasper to transfer 1$1,000.00 from the Liquor fund to the General fund.
Seconded by S- arson and carried.
A let`:-,er was recieved from County Comnii.s inner Leo Barthel giving permission to nave
the old Daniels house on E. Broadway toren down.
