City Council Minutes 12-06-1965December 6, 1965, Regular meeting of the village council held this date in the village hall. Members present- Bergstrom, Kasper, Madsen, Sandberg and Swanson. Absent. None. Minutes of hhe meetings of Nov. 1 & 2 approved as read. Motion by Kasper that due to his error in not publishing the notice of hearing for vacating portions of village streets, as pititioned by Harry Bergstrom, that this hearing be set for December 17, at 9:00 P.M. in the village hall. Seconded by Sandberg and carried. North central Public Service Co. showed the council figures of diferances in heating with propain gas and natural gas and they proposed that they could save the village approximately $200.00 per year with natural gas. Motion by Madsen that we hook up to natural gas for the fire barn and village hall from Worth Central Public Service Co. Seconded by Sandberg and carried. Stub LaBree applied for the position of supervisor for the warming house. Motion by Kasper to hire Stub LaBree to supervise the warming house with salary of $1.35 pert, hour. Hours to be 43) P.M. to *:00 P.M. daily and 1:00 to 9:00 Saturdays and Sundays . weather permitting. These wages to be paid half by the village and half by,the school. Motion seconded by Sandberg and carried. Sherrill Stempf presented the village council his bill for covering the dump stating he put in 190 equipment hours at $8.00 per hour for a total of $1,520.00. The council felt that this was extremely high for the amount of work accomplished and,, offered to pay $1,000.00 for the job. Hr. Stempf offered to reduce the bill by $200.00 bgt would not reduce it to $1,000.00. Motion was made by Swanson that the village make,a top offer of $1,200.00. Seconded by Kasper and carried. Mr. Stempf accepted to settle for this offer. D. Dorn and E. Dorf representing the school board requested to know if the council would change the schools sewer rates to correspond with water usage after they had installed meters. After some discussion the council dedided to stand firm on the rates as stated in the sewer ordinance at least until after the meters are installed and the amount of water usage could be determined. Applications were recieved from Lee McKinnen and Bud McPherson for civil defense director. Bergstrom metioned that the district civil defehse director would be here Friday December 10 and that all intrested parties should meet with him. A. McIntire stated that he h --id been offered $75.00 for our old tube radio from Joe Cook. Motion by Kasper that we sell this radio for this offer. Seconded by Swanson and carried. G. Davis requested that something be done about ears parked on the streets hindering snow removal, Motion by Madsen that a notice be put in the paper that cars parked on the street hindering snow removal will be taged and towed away at the owners expense. Seconded by Kasper and carried, Swanson ebstaning. Motion by Sandberg to renew the water fund cirtificate of deposit in the amount of $6$000.00 plus accured interest for six months. Seconded by Kasper and carried. A. McIntire requested his one weeks vacation pay that he has conning December 15. Motion by Madsen that we pay the Village share of the 196-1965 PERA & P 4 F. amounting tot, 938.13 from the general fund andl, 086.60 from the Liquor fund. Seconded by Swanson and carried. Motion by Kasper that we approve building permits for Milton Olson to build a 24 X 26 foot addition to his house on lot 10 and W. 20 feet of 9 block P; and Dr. C.W. Erlandson to build a 18 X 22 foot addition to his house on lot 5 and E 21 ft. of 4 and E. 62 ft. of W. 45 ft, of block B Lower Monticello. Seconded by Sandberg and carried. continued next page. Dec. 61, continued A letter was recieved from the industral cormdssion demanding an extension of the cage around the 'ladder and aircraft warning light over the top of the water tower. Madsen was appointed to check this and determine the cost. I Motion by Madsen to pay bills as read. Seconded by Swanson and carried. 04 motion adjourned 11:45 P.M. n erk. December 17, 1965 Special meeting of the village counuil held tris date in the village hall at 9:00 P.Y. to hear remarks of any interested parties with referance to the petition of H. Bergstrom to vacate portions of village streets. Swanson absent. Motion by Kasper that we purchase a Swenson self feeding 8and spreader from W. A. Rausch. Seconded by Sandberg and carried. I Motion by Madsen to enter into a contract with Watertower paint and Repair Co. to install gard rails to water tank ladder in accordinance with the rOquirements of the Industrial Commission. Contract price to be $200,00. Seconded by Kasper and carried. Discussion was held on vacating village streets in accorali-nance with the petition of H. Bergstrom. There were no citisens present to be hea:t-d with referance to thj4 Motion by Kasper to table temporally the dicision on vacating of village streets., as listed in the petition of H. Bergstrom., until further consultation with the State highway department on approches. Seconded by Sandberg and c=irried. Motion by Madsen to contact G. Swenson Attorney to see if he would represent the village in aquiring approches to the property between seventh and eighth streets off T. Hd 25. Seconded by Kasper and carried.
