Adjournment Jim Thares From: Jolene Foss <JoleneF@wrightpartnership.org> Sent: Wednesday, March 30, 2022 11:43 AM To: Jim Thares Subject: BRE Summary -LaPointe MFG Good morning Jim, Here is a summary of our visit -let me know if you think this is accurate. you can include it in the packet if you wish. BRE Summary: Toby LaPointe of LaPointe MFG welcomed the WCEDP and the Monticello Industrial Economic Development Committee for a BRE visit on March 11th, 2022. LaPointe MFG began in 2013 in Elk River where it was located for 8 years. They moved to Monticello in 2021. This is their only location. This site is owned, and the leadership team is working with the owner's son on a future succession plan. The company manufactures extrusion dies from steel and stainless-steel disks that are used in the production of pet food and aqua feed products. These dies are made in a variety of shapes and sizes and are shipped both domestically and internationally. They are acquiring steel from Nashville and Connecticut, and trying to stock up on stainless-steel due to some supply chain difficulty. Some of the countries they export to include Egypt, Australia, Canada, Kenya, and South Africa, as well as locally to cities like Delano. LaPointe has seen an increase in sales and demand for their product in the recent past. Currently, LaPointe has three (3) full-time employees at this facility, which is an increase by one (1) from last year. There is a desire to increase employees as sales are predicted to continue to increase by at least 10% annually due to the increased capacity at this new location. There is a desire to hire a trained machinist, but willing to train if necessary. The preferred training would be Tool and Die Maker, CAD (Computer Aided Design) Training is desired, as well. Toby expressed interest in more information regarding SBA Loans as he feels the cost to export is high, and the cost for steel and stainless steel is rising, as well. He commented that the community is a good fit for his needs, it is quiet here. He did mention that the business park design does seem to be a bit tough for semis, but nothing of grave concern. At this time, there was no specific follow up requested from this visit. Thanks, Jolene Jolene Foss Executive Director 320.534.8344 Cell 763-496-5593 Office 3650 Braddock Ave NE Buffalo, MN 55313
