In the first four months of this year we circulated 5292 more items than we did in the same four months in 2006. Our April numbers indicate an increase of 1763 so the trend continues. Our Internet stations remain extremely busy, for the 1+Irst four months of the year we are averaging a monthly use of 818. In addition, many of our patrons are taking advantage of our wireless capability. • We received our third circ terminal in April and are now able to maximize our staffing levels and provide better service to our patrons. The addition of the third terminal has eliminated the long checkout lines. The Friends purchased ahigh-speed thermal receipt printer for the terminal, which is much faster and quieter than the old receipt printer. The Teen Anime pilot project that the Library was able to offer this past school year thru GRRL was a huge success. We will be able to offer this popular teen program again starting in September even though we lost our GRRL support staff. I was able to find an adult volunteer that will help supervise and run this program with me. • The Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros program that I received a grant for was a huge success. We had over 65 children and families enjoying a bilingual story session, singing, dancing and the breaking of the pinatas. Spanish students from the high school helped with crafts, Gonzo the Clown made balloon animals, food came from Chapitos and every child received a free book, either in English or Spanish. Over 75% of our group was Latinos, many in the Library for the first time. We are now gearing up for a busy summer. The summer reading program, "Go Bananas" is going to be lots of fun and expect a ton of kids to be participating. The GRRL summer reading program has been expanded to include 0-12 years. We will have a, "Read to Me" program for babies and toddlers and a separate, "Get Lost at your Library" for teens. Debra Luken Branch Manager Monticello Public Library
