Library Board Minutes 06-19-2006Monticello Library Board Minutes -- June 19~' 2006 Present Board Members: Torn Parker, Ralph Olsen, Jacque Gordon, Chris Anderley, Debra Luken, Branch Librarian Guests: Joan Allen, Supervisor GRRL Jacque and Tom reported that they met with the City Council and the City agreed to pay to have the desk fixed and finalized. The desk will be replaced on Thursday June 22n`~ at 6 am and will be completed prior to opening of the library for the day at 1 pm. The countertop will be the same brand as the current top however it will be a step up in their product line. Jacque and Tom reported that they spoke with the City council regarding the art project. The Council was supportive and authorized the use of stone from the Braise Library. Jackie presented the brochure that will be used to generate funds for the sculpture. She will be meeting with the Chamber on 6/20 to seek funds through them as well. The Board recommended that the project not proceed until $8,000 in funds is raised. Jackie and Lynne Dahl-Fleming of the Monticello Arts Council will be using the Friends of the Monticello Library and the Monticello Arts Council mailing lists to distribute the brochures. The Board agreed to permanent indicators far sponsors of the project donating $1,000 or more. The Friends and the Arts Council will recover expenses from the mailings and other fund raising efforts. Jacque will be contacting the editor of the Monticello Times to possibly use part of the sculpture for publicity through the Monticello Times. Ralph is going to see if it's possible to get the brochure placed into the City Newsletter. It was also suggested to start an elementary school penny drive and a donation box in the Library. The current estimate for completion on the sculpture is spring 2007. Torn spoke with Kristy Smith, GRRL, regarding an increase in hours for the Library of 5 to 8 haurs. The proposal will be brought up in the GRRL budge planning meetings. Librarian's Report: Debra Luken, Branch Librarian, reports 216 children currently enrolled in the Summer Reading Program. The Friends of the Monticello Library was able to recruit several Middle School volunteers to assist with the program. The Library is still seeking additional furniture. Debra will create a "wish list" of items they would like to have.
