Special Parks Commission Meeting, August 11, 2003

1. Call to order
Chair Larry Nolan called the meeting to order at 8: I 0 A.M. and
declared a quorum present at the East Bridge Park, Monticello.

2. Review of Proposed Chane:es to East Bride:e Park.
Adam Hawkinson presented proposed changes to East Bridge Park.
The Parks Commission walked the area of the proposed changes to
better understand the impact on the arboretum. The existing steps on
the east side of the park are in need of replacement and present a
barrier to access. The proposed change would remove the stairs and
replace it with a paved pathway that sweeps down the hill such that
the slope is minimized. Rest areas would be provided on the hill and
paths would be built on the side of the hill to allow access to planting.
See sketch. The committee discussed replacing the steps and the
pathway option without the steps, and asked that Adam obtain bids on
the two options. Also the existing gravel pathway from the Highway
25 bridge will be paved. It was suggested that consideration be given
to move the gravel pathway such that a new planting area could be
developed and that existing planting would not be impacted.
The committee will review the cost estimates when available and
make the final decision.
3. Preliminary Discussion of the 2004 Parks Bude:et.
Adam presented a preliminary budget for the next year. The Parks
Commission discussed the proposed budget and made minor
comments.
