RE: Cancellation of 3rd Quarter Meeting
• The quarterly Palice Cammission meeting scheduled for mid-October has been cancelled. In
recent discussions with Chairman Warren Smith and Sheriff Don Hozempa, there do not
appear to be any issues that need to be addressed by the Police Commission at this time.
If something should come up that requires a special meeting, commission members will be
noti#`xed; otherwise, our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for January 1993.
As a follow-up to the neighborhood watch program that was discussed at our meeting in
May, I recently had a conversation with Sergeant Berlyn Birkholz of the Wright County
Sheriff's Department concerning whether there's been any interest by neighborhood
associations, apartment corplexes, or other parties concerning establishing watch programs
in Monticello. While Mr. Birkholz has had conversations with J.B. Properties, managers of
apartment complexes on East 7th Street, no further action has been taken by this group
regarding a watch program. Mr. Birkholz did indicate that some neighborhood watch
program signs have been placed along River Street in the Hillcrest area, and he has spoken
to a small group in the Anders Wilhelm area. While interest in the program has been low
at this time, I do intend to again remind the citizens of the program availability through our
quarterly city newsletter.
Also, the police department is gearing up to provide 24-hour coverage starting January 1993,
which has been approved by the City Council.
