MINUTES
MONTICELLO LmRARY BOARD
Tuesday, April 15, 2003-7:30 pm
MEMBERS PRESENT: Diane Herbst, chair; James Maus, Tom Parker, Sandra Foster,
and branch librarian Margo Askin
LmRARY TOUR -Board members toured the new library facility and reviewed the areas
that are not yet completed, including the exterior signage and touch-up painting, inside
book drop enclosure, modules for a stand-up Internet computer station and four catalog
stations, and a privacy wall for the librarian's work area. All of the uncompleted)tems are
scheduled for completion pending arrival of parts and/or materials.
STAFF REPORT
. Events for the Summer Library Program have been scheduled for the Community
Center and stafffrom both facilities are interested in doing some joint programming,
especially for teens.
. There is interest in reorganizing a Friends of the Library group to help advocate for
the library's interests and assist with fund-raising and events. Margo will meet with a
small group to lay the groundwork before advertising a general public meeting.
. A used book sale has been scheduled for April 26-May 1 to reduce the inventory of .
donated books due to limited storage space at the new facility.
.
CELL PHONE USE IN LmRARY
The board discussed the possibility of asking that patrons silence their cell phones upon
entering the facility. Those present agreed unanimously that this request was not
unreasonable and could be made in a positive way as a matter of courtesy to other library
users. Margo will check with Great River Regional Library to determine how other
branches handle this issue.
MEETING SCHEDULE
Board members agreed that more regular meetings, scheduled at least once per quarter,
would help assure that library issues and information were communicated to board
members and to the city on a timely basis. Preparation for the annual budget request will
begin at the next meeting set for Tuesday, May 20 at 4 pm in the library.
