AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO CRIMINAL HISTORY
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS FOR APPLICANTS FOR
CITY EMPLOYMENT AND CITY LICENSES
NOTICE ISHEREBY GIVENthat, on March 12, 2012, Ordinance No.554 was
adopted by the City Council of the City of Monticello, Minnesota, Due to the lengthy
nature of Ordinance No. 554, the following summary of the ordinance has been prepared
for publication as authorized by state law.
The ordinance adopted by the Council amends the City Code to provide for
criminal history background investigations prior to appointing employees or volunteers to
certain city positions or before granting certain city licenses, permits or approvals to
persons conducting certain businesses within the City, including liquor licensees. The
ordinance is required for the City to conduct criminal history background checks in a
manner consistent with requirements in state law, and to have the Wright County Sheriff
access state criminal history records for non - criminal investigation purposes. Provisions
include notice to the person being investigated and procedures if adverse appointment or
licensing decisions are made based on the results of the investigation.
A printed copy of the whole ordinance is available for inspection by any person during
the City's regular office hours. The complete ordinance will be posted on the City's
website following publication.
