Library Board Minutes 07-08-1981 . MINUTES MONTICELLO LIBRARY BOARD Wednesday, July 8, 1981 - 6:30 P.M. Monticello City Hall Members Present: Loren Klein, Donald Maus, Pat Schwarz, Marge Bauer Members Absent: Joel Erickson, Irwin Kal1in Also Present: Gary t<7ieber, Mona Carmack and Tedine Roas from the Great River Regional Library System. 1. The purpose of this meeting was to meet with the administrative heads of the Great River Regional Library System so that they might brief the Monticello Library Board members on the general structure of the Great River Regional Library System and how the system is funded and what Monticello can expect to receive as far as books and services with the advent of the new library. A. The system is a consolidated one serving six counties: Todd, Morrison, Benton, Stearns, Sherburne and Wright. It has a service area of 4,912 square miles and a population of 206,787. . B. Funding is provided by the counties on a per capita basis. The 1982 budget prepared by the finance committee of the Great River Regional Library calls for a levy of $3.82 per capita or $193,815 for Wright County. This is a 33.17% increase over 1981. Approximately, this is a $.50 increase per capita for the rest of wright County and a $2.50 increase per capita for the City of Monticello because of its valuation. Overall this is a 13% increase over last year.* 2. with the acceptance of this budget increase for 1982, Monticello will receive 34 additional staff hours for a total of 65 staff hours. Present plans allow for 34 open hours in 1982. 3. There was some discussion as to setting up a separate collection for donations of books and books purchased with Monticello funds. The contract as it now reads states that all books and equipment purchased by whatever means becomes the property of Great River Regional Library. The books should be placed on the COM cata10ge and should circulate through out the entire system, except those designated as "Reference". Reference books must be used in the library and cannot be checked out. It would take an agreement of all participants to change this aspect of the contract. *This budget was approved by the Great River Regional Library Board on Tuesday, July 14, 1981. - 1 - .
