Library Board Minutes 08-26-1981 . . . MINUTES MONTICELLO LIBRARY BOARD Wednesday, August 26, 1981 - 6:30 P.M. Members Present: Loren Klein, Joel Erickson, Irwin Kallin, Pat Schwarz, Marge Bauer. Members Absent: Donald Maus Also Present: Gary Wieber, Mona Carmack and Tedine Roas from the Great River Regional Library System, Arlyn Nelson, wright County Commissioner, Merrill Birch and Marguerite pringle. 1. Arlyn Nelson, wright County Commissioner and member of the Great River Re- gional Library Board, was invited to this board meeting to clarify the county's position against the 13% increase in the Great River 1981 Budget which was recently approved by the board. After much controversy, this budget is due to be voted on again on September 1, 1981. Ms. Nelson stated that she can not be the proponent of library expenditures that she would like to be at this particular time. She is proposing an 8% increase in the library budget. This 8% increase will mean Monticello will not be receiving the 35 additional staff hours as allocated under the 13% budget. Ms. Nelson's suggestion was that we "wait and see" if we really need them when we move into the new building. When asked her opinion as to what would happen should the board again vote the 13% increase, she stated that wright County would probably make a resolution to support the 8% increase. In the event that the matter should go to court, she felt the County would win as this amounts to a 33% increase for Wright county. 2. Merrill Birch stated that it was important at this time to make a decision on the shelving as this item could have a waiting period of three to six months. Loren Klein presented the basic decorating scheme. He then made a motion to accept the proposed carpet, drapery, woodwork, wal1covering, tile, etc. The motion was seconded by Joel and passed with a vote of 3 to 1. Ka11in objecting to trim color only. Furniture will be selected at the next meeting of the decorating committee. 3. There was brief discussion as to the budget problems we are experiencing. Merrill stated that everything is coming in rather high and it was suggested that perhaps we could do only partial landscaping, enough to meet the city's requirements. Loren Klein was asked to get public bids for the parking lot so that this can be completed before winter and is ready at the time the library opens. It was suggested that Gary include a Contingency Fund of approximately $5,000 in his 1981 library budget proposal. 4. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, September 24, 1981, at 6:30 P.M. .IJ; t1A~tJ ~f.} /1Jt1./ Marge Ba er, Secretary
