REFERENCE AND BACKGROUND:
At a recent meeting. the City Council approved granting land necessary to support development of
an ice arena and left the door open to reducing or eliminating development fees. At the meeting the
Council asked the Hockey Association to prepare a detailed budget showing evidence of the need
to eliminate development fees. Subsequent to this meeting two area residents, Brad Blue and Mark
Pederson asked about the possibility of finding city land for development of a year round domed
indoor recreation facility for field sports such as socceL football. lacrosse, volleybalL basebalL
softball and golf. The were interested in building and operating such a facility if land were available.
This concept was presented to Silver Creek who then became interested in adding the indoor
recreation field to the mix thus creating a sports center featuring ice, domed athletic field and
common areas. Once Silver Creek embraced this concept. Blue and Pederson bO\ved out of their
efforts to build a stand alone dome. The Monticello Soccer Club then joined the effort by offering
to operate the dome as the primary tenant. Silver Creek is also requesting the addition of a
commercial component to the site intended to complement the community recreation use of the
property.
The purpose of the meeting is to review the new proposal submitted by the Hockey Association.
Soccer Club and Silver Creek and discuss potential opportunities for collaboration. Attached is an
agenda for the meeting \vhich was prepared with input from Al Gagnon of the Point Group.
