Library Board Minutes 12-07-2010MINUTES OF THE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING TUESDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2010 5:30 P.M. Members present: Branch Manager Deb Luken, Beth Metzger, Janet Bridgland, Sandra Lommel. Maribel Cruz-Longley, City Council Liaison Susie Wojchouski. Minutes of the September meeting were either mailed or e-mailed to all Board Members – therefore not read, but approved. Old Business: None Library Report – Deb Luken:  Patron usage for the last three months increased over 2009 and circulation statistics increased by 2,717 for the same period.  Average number of items checked out per hour increased by 8 more items.  185 more patrons used the WIFI the past three months than last year.  Shelving units have been purchased from video stores going out of business and are repurposed for the CD and YA collections.  An additional circulation terminal was received from GRRL.  926 Children attended 39 early childhood literacy story hours. Programs were made possible by the financial support of the City of Monticello  “Snow is falling Books are Calling” is the Winter Reading Program for adults and teens from January 3 through February 26, 2011.  GRRL changed the overdue policy as of January 3, 2011 because of budget concerns. All accounts must be paid in full before additional materials can be checked out. Present policy allows patrons to check out items as long as their fees are under $6.00.  Proctoring service provided by library staff will have a fee of $10 per test as of January 3, 2011. Changes in fee collection are due to budget constraints. GRRL Update – Brandi Canter:  Currently the restructuring recommendations have been placed on hold and there is no restructuring scheduled at this time.  A contract settlement has not been reached.  Print quest – A software application designed to track the number of copies printed by patrons using the copy machines will be installed in libraries. This new system will control the number of pages printed and will require that patrons pay before making copies. The number of copies printed will also be controlled. City Council Liaison:  Pizza Ranch is scheduled to be built on corner of Hwy 25 and Chelsea Road.  Walgreens will be built at the intersection of Hwy 25 and 75.  City is tightening its budget.  New electronic sign has been erected at the Hi-Way Liquor Store. Kitty Baltos can be contacted for submitting information for the sign.  This is Susie’s last meeting, her term with the council ended with the November election. A replacement will be appointed. New Business: None Additional Comments: A flyer with information concerning the Health Fair for Spanish speaking families was shown. It will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Monticello Community Center. 60 Booths are available for Health related services and interpreters will be available. It is sponsored by the Monticello Diversity Committee of which Deb and Maribel are members. Folders will be provided at the Fair with resource information for new residents. Brandi will check for information to be inserted in the folders conc erning the GRRL system.
