Library Report — Deb Luken:
• The Summer Reading Program "One World Many Stories" was a great success. Over 700
children participated in the program. Magic Carpet Gang and the Passport to Adventure
club were two of the weekly story times. All summer programs were very well attended.
• Items circulated for June, July, and August averaged 116 items per hour. The public
Internet stations averaged 1,342 patron usage per month. WiFi averaged 159 patrons
per month. Deb noted that statistics are counted differently because of the type of
software. Online renewals do not count and many patrons renew online.
• Fall events calendar is available and registrations are being taken. Programs in the
calendar are financed through the city of Monticello. The Legacy Funding of $3500 for
each library will begin in January. The Friends are sponsoring 3 events: The Fall Book
Sale, A Live Portrayal of Mark Twain and the ABC's of Nutrition. The Mark Twain event is
co- sponsored with the Senior Center.
• Two electric open signs and a paper shredder were purchased. The previous signs and
shredder were no longer working.
• The Union representing the Branch Managers and Great River Regional Board has signed
a contract.
GRRL Update — Brandi Canter:
• Budget at state level passed, Maintenance of Effort for public libraries frozen at 2011
amount.
• Budget looks good for next year with a slight increase which will be used to add staffing
where needed.
• Legacy Funding passed.
• September is National Library Card Sign -Up month. Patrons are encouraged to invite
friends and family members to obtain library cards.
• Staffing calculator will be used to look at branch libraries and give additional hours for
staffing.
Additional Comments:
Sony, I -Pad and Nook are only readers at this time that will allow downloading of digital
books from the GRRL system. The Kindle should have that capability soon.
The next meeting will be December 6t" at 5:30 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,
Sandra Lommel
