Library Board minutes 03-12-2013MINUTES OF THE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING TUESDAY, March 12, 2013 5;30 P.M. Members present: Branch Manager Deb Luken, Janet Bridgland, Sandra Lommel, Beth Metzger, Ralph Olsen, Elaine Settergren, Regional Supervisor Brandi Cantor. Member absent: Lloyd Hilgert, City Council Representative. Minutes of the last meeting approved. Old Business: None Library Report — Deb Luken: • Monticello circulation for 2012 increased by 9,052. Average number of items checked out per hour was 110 compared to 115 in 2011. Library was open 3 additional hours on Monday, starting in January 2012 which would explain the drop in hourly numbers. • Internet usage decreased on public internet stations from 12,033 in 2011 to 9,809 in 2012. There are 6 one hour internet stations and one 15 minute express station for public use. 2,390 patrons used wireless in 2012 and 1,902 used wireless in 2011. • 129 programs were provided for children, adults, and teens with a total of 3,586 patrons attending the programs. The Summer Reading Program attracted 891 participants 0 — 17 in 2012. • A number of Legacy funded programs were presented; Mixed Blood Theatre, Grace Carlson's Harriet Tubman, Guthrie bus trip, Learn to Draw Cartoon Characters. City funded programs included Family Bird Program, Explore Arctic /Antarctic, Make and Take Valentines, Story times, and Baby Bounce. Friends presented Felted Mittens and Exploring Zambia. • 19,063 items checked out in January 2013, 18,470 items in February 2013. • 310 participants in the Adult Winter Reading Program • Friends book sale scheduled for April 13 and 15. • GRRL annual fundraising program: High Five March 1 — 31. • Community Read: The Latehomecomer Tuesday, April 9 @ 6:30 pm at Monticello Middle School Media Center — Diversity Committee of Monticello. GRRL Update — Brandi Canter: • Nothing to report about the compensation and classification study or any policy developments. • Patron Services Coordinator announced new Programming Committee Guidelines aimed at ensuring that programming region -wide will be more in line with the new strategic plan. Branches have been separated into tiers based on open hours and borrower numbers, with minimum and maximum program numbers for different kinds of programs. • Monticello is in good standing both in the number and variety of programs that Deb has developed. No major shifts in this library. • The GRRL BOT will me on Tuesday, March 19. The agenda has not been released as of March 12. New Business: Janet Bridgland and Beth Metzger's position expires.
