MCC Advisory Board Minutes 05-17-2011MINUTES MONTICELLO COMMUNITY CENTER (MCC) ADVISORY BOARD TUESDAY, MAY 17,2011 — 6:30 P.M. RIVER ROOM Board Members Present: Ron Broekemeier- Chair, Sandra Theros -Vice Chair, Darren Paumen, Clint Herbst Board Members Absent: Jennifer Bethke Council Alternate Absent: Lloyd Hilgart Staff Members Present: Kitty Baltos- Director 1. Call meeting to order Ron Broekemeier called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. 2. Consideration of adding items to the agenda a) Bertram Tour b) Community Garden 3. Consideration of approving the minutes from the April 19, 2011 regular meeting SANDRA THEROS MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF APRIL 19, 2011. RON BROEKEMEIER SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 4 -0. 4. Update Items a. Visit Summary through April 2011 There were 3,500 more visitors in April in 2011than last year. This equates to about 100 more people per day. b. Natatorium Improvements Staff reported that the League of MN Cities Claims Adjuster is conducting a forensic evaluation of the wall and roof of the natatorium to assist the City in determining if litigation might be appropriate. The evaluation maybe completed within a month. It appears that the pool's entire mechanical system may need to be replaced. It may be December before this can be completed but the actual installation of a new system may be completed in a day or so. c. Warehouse Improvements Staff reported that they are very pleased with the results of the Warehouse remodeling project. There were brief comments about the changes. MCC Advisory Board Minutes 05/17/11 d. Friendship Island Friendship Island registration is expected to be at capacity. e. General Facility and Programming Movie in the Park: MCC is looking for a new sponsor for the Movie in the Park events through the summer. Sponsoring costs about $3,000 for the season. MCC will sponsor the first movie. Online program registration: There have been more startup expenses than anticipated. Registrants are eager to utilize the new online system. 7. Consideration of adding items to the agenda a) Bertram Tour - The YMCA met with members of the Bertram Advisory Committee to tour the park property and consider a shared use scenario. The Y would like to establish a 99 year lease for certain portions of the northern part of the Bertram property to use for their day camp. There are varying opinions among Advisory Committee members as to whether or not this is a viable option. There was some discussion about other possible future uses for that portion of the property. Representatives from the Advisory Committee are scheduled to tour a Y day camp at Lake George to further explore the option of shared use scenario. b) Community Garden - The Community Garden is open for the season.
