City Council Minutes 09-02-1971 SpecialVILLAGE OF MONTICELLO Monticello, Minnesota 55362 September 2, 1971 Special meeting of Monticello Village Council. Subject: Liquor Store Operation Call to order at 7:40 P. M. Present: Ron Schleif, Dick Martie, Jim Maus, Walt Markling,Bill Sandberg, Dick Hesley, Bob Mossford, accountant. Walt started by covering the comparison chart he had drawn up. Comparisons noted we are low in percent of gross sales and what is wanted now is why we are where we're at and what can be done to improve this picture. Bob covered his comparison sheet which compares the state average and Mon- ticello's. Bob also felt that the previous volume discount on the nff- sale did lower our profit picture and since this has been discontinued. Our operating expenses are too high, which is the wages, benefits, etc. Bob brought uo the bar area and lounge as presently set up are bad and there is too much mann_ower needed to tend this bar. Bob felt a horseshoe bar arrangement would improve this. Also covered was the fact that Buffalo did buy in volume and thus their discount was more. Insurance for Monticello is higher than Buffalo, +,he liquor audit costs are more due to inventory problems and. procedures, cleaning cost for Monticello store is slip-htly higher and cleaning supplies costs are too high. Bill Sandberg brought tan the manager working more as on a full shift. Also covered was the profitable tap beer setup. These manv expense problems must be corrected or improved to bring our profit picture up. Cost of the horseshoe bar and other imrrovem.ents it was felt that the cost may be too high but Bob felt we should get estimates on this. Also, we should comnare insurance costs and see if we can see any savings by changing. We should also look into cleaning and supplies and see where we can save in this area. In the audit area we should keep our merchandise in order and keep any records in better shape to eliminate unnecessary time in straightening out. Motion to adjourn by Walt Markling, second by Bill Sandberg. Adjourned at 9:35 P. M. Dick :'Martie, Acting Secretary DM/1g
